At John Spence, we are committed to providing each student with a coherent and varied programme of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG). We understand how important Careers education and guidance is to our young people, and provide opportunities for our students to meet employers, understand the wide range of choices available to them after John Spence, and to develop the skills and confidence to fulfil their ambitions.
Our dedicated Careers Lead for the School is Ms Kate Winder (firstname.lastname@example.org)
We are working towards achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks in order to ensure we fulfil every element of CEIAG effectively, and cater for the needs of all of our pupils. Our aim is to integrate CEIAG into the whole curriculum from Art to Science, whilst also providing education on career pathways in Fit for Life lessons and form time, and offering pupils a chance to meet employers and explore the world of work through a series of engaging year group activities. For the school CEIAG policy please click this link CEIAG Policy.
John Spence CEIAG Provision Map 2019-20
This document outlines the workshops, assemblies, events and lessons that enable us to offer a varied and relevant CEIAG provision. We use the Careers Development Institute’s framework to ensure we cover all elements of careers and guidance. This is a working document and is therefore subject to changes as the year progresses.
As well as providing careers education for Year 7 through to Year 11, we also provide pupils with the Connexions service which offers one to one sessions giving impartial advice on careers. For more information on Connexions, visit their website. All Year 11 pupils are offered at least one session in the year, but all pupils can arrange a drop in session via their form tutor at any point.
This year we are introducing ‘Futures Month’ which will be a month long programme of careers related activities for each year group in January. The programme builds up sequentially from Year 7 and includes a series of drop down events, Careers lessons, form time activities and assemblies.
CEIAG Across the Curriculum
At John Spence we are committed to ensuring Careers Information Advice and Guidance is embedded into the curriculum (Gatsby Benchmark 4). This document outlines how each individual department links their subject to CEIAG.
John Spence are currently building up a community of employers that can engage our pupils in talks, tours and events, offering them an opportunity to explore the world of work in more depth. If you would like to be part of our employer community please contact email@example.com
