The Netball competition is always the first competition of the academic year. Pupils are invited to two training sessions before the actual competition starts. Training will allow pupils to become confident using their skills within a full size court and using the correct height posts. All equipment and bibs will be provided on the night for these events.
In the competition, squads can be made up of boys and girls from Year 5 and 6. If there are boys included in the squad, no more than two boys maybe on the court at any one time. There is a maximum of 3 boys allowed per squad. The squad can consist of a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 9 players with 5 players on court at any one time.
The successful team from this competition will represent our cluster at the SCHOOL GAMES, a massive event to be held later in the year as part of the Governments initiative to promote more competitive sport!

Results
High Fives Competition
NETBALL teams from across the John Spence School Sport Programme played in a competition held at John Spence Community High School.
The Year 5/6 pupils played High Five netball, the modified game for Years 5 and 6, to introduce them to the full court game. Most of the players had not played competitive netball before.
Pupils had received a unit of work in netball in the lead up to the event followed by over 60 pupils spending an additional two weeks training in preparation for the event led by Adam Pilkington, a PE teacher from John Spence.
The majority of feeder schools were represented, most providing more than one team! A total of eight teams played in two separate leagues on the first night of competition.
The competition involved all teams in each section playing against each other, with the top two teams in each section advancing through to a Trophy round the following week, and the bottom two teams playing in a Christmas fun league.
King Edwards 2 won their section, with Preston Grange 1 finishing a close second. In the other section, King Edwards 1 won with King Edwards 3 finishing second.
The following week, the teams played in their respective leagues with some excellent Netball being demonstrated in both competitions. Spring Gardens won the Christmas league going unbeaten on the night with Christ Church closely following.
The Trophy league showed its class, but it was Preston Gnagne who went unbeaten to take the top honours, beating King Edwards 2 in the final moments of thier encounter, 2-1. Valiant efforts from the remaining three teams, but they could not keep up with the passing, moving and sharp finishing of their counterparts.
A total of 70+ pupils participated in the tournament, once again highlighting netball as the fastest growing sport in England.
Organisers congratulated all players, teachers and officials and wished Preston Grange luck in representing John Spence in the High Five finals in February.
