The mixed hockey competition is the second event for the Year 5/6 pupils to battle it out. Held at our local 6th form College, QA, it is a rare opportunity for the pupils to play under flood lights. Normally held on a cool, but crisp evening, the players need to work hard to win games, and keep warm! Schools are asked to bring their own equipment on the night, although sticks and bibs can be provided if necessary.
The event follows on from the Year 3/4 Quickstick competition and is a chance for the better players to exploit the space and play with much more control and time on the bigger playing area. Teams on the day will consist of 10 players, with 7 playing at any one time. A minimum of three boys and three girls must be on the field of play at any one time.
The successful team from this competition will represent our cluster at the North Tyneside Finals! A chance to play against some of the best Hockey players in the area.

Mini Hockey Result
On a freezing night, it was great to see most schools being represented in the Year 5/6 Mixed Hockey. Held at QA College, teams had the opportunity to play in a round robin competition. A great way to see which team would come out on top with 5 points up for grabs for winning, 3 for drawing and 1 for losing.
Teams are mixed; seven-a-side and games are played on half a pitch to encourage skills to be developed, as most of the pupils have not played a great deal of hockey. The small side games and basic rules encourage all players to transfer their sporting skills into hockey, giving them every chance to become the champions.
With quick fixtures and no half times, players remained engaged throughout. All the teams played some good attacking hockey, with some excellent defending resulting in some entertaining games.
The first games got underway and it was King Edwards and Preston Grange who looked the strongest. These teams proved to be the game of the night with King Edwards coming out on top 2- 0. The rest of the night produced some big scores as some teams became tired but it was good to see some of the other schools being competitive against each other. Throughout the night there were some excellent examples of Teamwork, Sportsmanship and progression of ability.
Well done to all the players who took part and many thanks to all the staff and parents who gave up their time in order for the event to be a success.
Good luck to King Edwards in the North Tyneside Finals and do John Spence Proud!
