John Spence is a popular and successful school, serving students from the North Shields area of North Tyneside. We have an exciting opportunity for a creative, hardworking professional to join our highly effective Inclusion team as an SSA with a specialism in EAL (English as an Additional Language). The successful candidate may have experience of working with children in the 11-16 age range but this is not essential. They will have high expectations when supporting teaching and learning in both 1-2-1 situations and throughout the school.
This post is offered at 3 days a week on a fixed contract for one year initially, and will involve working in collaboration with the Director of Inclusion, Head of English and SENCO to develop and implement support plans for students with EAL (English as an Additional Language) and promote inclusive education.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience of supporting EAL and SEN pupils in mainstream settings across more than one key stage. You will be working with small groups of pupils with varied levels of English comprehension and knowledge, ranging from those who have some English fluency to those who may have little or no English language skills. You will have an allocation of cover supervision.
