Headteacher Update

December 2022

It’s been a cold week, but that hasn’t stopped our students being involved in the usual programme of events, I always marvel at the Academy rugby players on the fields at 8.15am regardless of the weather…true resilience! Our Performing Arts team have been busy preparing for our panto next Wednesday, all very short notice following students requesting to put one on, but I’m sure there will be lots of laughs and festive fun.

We have also been working with the North Shields Helix Arts project and this week saw the launch of the new North Tyneside Cultural Education branding, which was designed by some Year 7 & 8 students last year – you can see the results on their website. As well as this our students, and some staff, were involved in the Helix Georgian Cluedo project at the Exchange Theatre last weekend, which was a huge success, so well done to all those involved.

Next term will see our Year 7 students involved in the North Tyneside MapMe project. Details can be found here, including the withdrawal of consent, but in essence this is about putting together a health profile of young people across the borough, with Year 7 being the oldest participants in the project.

Thank you to those of you who completed our parent surveys in recent weeks. Responses were overwhelmingly positive, but there are some areas, for example the communication of how well your child is doing, that scored less well. We are looking at these areas and will update you in the new year.

A quick Ralph update, he has already made a huge impact with some of our students, just a little bit of a cuddle with him or taking him for a walk has helped to make students’ days that little bit better when they may be struggling for an reason. Next year we plan to put together a dedicated ‘Ralph’ page on the website so you can stay up to date with all his antics!

Finally, just a reminder that school closes for Christmas at 2pm on Thursday 22nd December and reopens on Monday 9th January.

Best wishes

Jonathan
