Assistant Head Teacher (Student Guidance and Welfare)

11-16 mixed comprehensive Salary: L14-L18

Required for September 2023

John Spence is a popular and successful school, serving students from the North Shields area of North Tyneside.  A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a resilient and strategic leader to oversee student guidance and welfare in school. The position will involve leading the pastoral care for students in school including safeguarding, attendance and behaviour.

The Senior Leadership Team currently consists of the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, 4 Assistant Headteachers and the School Business Manager.  Overall staffing at John Spence is extremely stable and this position has only arisen due to the retirement of our current Pastoral AHT who has worked at the school since 1999.

Safeguarding and student welfare are central to all that we do and we have a large team of support staff to meet the need we have in school. The successful candidate will have oversight of the support in place and ensure that resources are deployed efficiently for maximum impact.

John Spence Community High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  As such an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure will be sought along with other relevant checks deemed appropriate.

To arrange a visit to find out more about the school, please contact the Headteacher’s PA [email protected].

An application form and accompanying letter of no more than 2 sides of A4 detailing the skills, knowledge and attributes you will bring to the role should be completed and returned no later than Wednesday 19th April @ 10am to the Headteacher’s PA [email protected].

Further details of the school and the post can be obtained from the school website, www.johnspence.org.uk as can a copy of the application form.
