There have been some great sporting achievements this week with the U16 girls crowned North Tyneside Netball champions and it was also good to see some great performance from the Year 7 netball team winning matches earlier in the week – the champions of the future! As well as this, it has been lovely to see Year 5 and 6 pupils participating in athletics who were fantastically well supported by our Year 9 sports leaders. To top it all the Academy programme continues to go from strength to strength despite the current pressures around Covid. All of the students engaging in these activities are demonstrating their commitment not only to their teams and the school, but also to their own development.
This week I received an email from the DfE stating that we were one of a number of schools where the reporting of lateral flow testing is very low. Testing does remain absolutely critical in the fight against Covid and I know that many of you will be using the twice weekly tests with your children, but are not necessarily reporting them. Please can I ask firstly that you continue to conduct the twice weekly testing to pick up any asymptomatic cases and secondly that you report all results, including negative on the government website found here . Thank you for your support with this. More tests will be sent home with your child today.
From Monday we will be stepping up our measures to tackle punctuality as there are a number of students who are regularly leaving home on time, but not arriving in school on time! In an update to our process, if your child is late you will receive a text as usual, but they will also be kept behind school for a minimum of 10 minutes at the end of that day. If we need to keep them longer than this the text will inform you of the time and ask you to respond. Again, thank you for your support with this.
Finally, the current situation with Covid means that we will not be going ahead with face to face parents’ evening in the near future. This means that the Year 9 parents evening scheduled for 7th December will take place virtually on our Parent Booking platform. Further details and a link with booking details will be sent out next Tuesday. We have also provisionally rescheduled our Year 11 Tutor Review Day on 18th January, which will link in with the subject written report that is due to be published that week; again, details of the meetings will be sent out nearer the time. Here’s hoping we will be able to proceed with these meetings face to face!
I hope that you all have a good weekend.
