I hope that you’ve had a good week and are not too badly affected by the rate of infection currently in the North East. As you will know we have had a further student case in school this week and also a member of staff has tested positive – the cases are completely unrelated and as things stand we have not heard that any student self-isolating as a result of these cases has tested positive. I would like to hope that we have no further cases in school before the holiday, but realistically that probably will not be the case and as things stand we still need to follow government and public health guidance in identifying any close contacts who must self-isolate. I know that the local Directors of Public Health are lobbying hard to change the rules around close contact in schools, but it seems unlikely that anything will change in the next two weeks. Please keep testing to help us avoid the need to send groups of student’s home – your support with this so far has been fantastic!
A couple of further updates about September:
- Students will continue to wear their PE kit to school on the days they have PE. No hoodies or joggers are allowed other than the ¾ zip JSCHS sport top and JSCHS Leggings and training pants. Please do get in touch with Mrs Blair if you need financial support in buying these or any items of uniform – email@example.com
- The school day will return to normal times as we will be returning to a single lunch sitting as we will have additional service points.

3. From September we will be using Chromebooks extensively with Year 10 students both in school and at home. This is part of our planned developments in the use of technology to support learning. We are in the position to loan a Chromebook to all students, but recognise that some of you may wish your child to use their own device. If this is the case, only Chromebooks will be able to be used in school so please check the suitability of any device before purchasing a new one. Further details will be shared before the end of term. We will be in touch with all families who currently have a school Chromebook to arrange their return prior to the summer holiday.
Arrangements for the last week of term are now finalised:
Monday 12th July – Elite athletes event
Thursday 15th July – Activity day (all students should wear their PE kit) Students will be informed about the activities next week and will be able to opt in to lots of different opportunities.
Friday 16th July – 1.50pm finish for the end of term
Finally, a parent contacted the school earlier in the week regarding concerns about some children playing in abandoned and derelict buildings. In particular, there seems to be activity around a derelict fish distribution building which has fire damage and is incredibly unstable. Please do talk to your child about entering buildings like this, it is not only trespassing it is also potentially extremely dangerous.
I hope that you all have a good weekend and let’s hope the Euro dream continues!
