Headteacher Update

September 2021

Another great week in school where our students have shown their desire to get on with their learning as well as showing their enthusiasm for the extracurricular activities available at lunchtime and after school; the number participating is amazing. I’m delighted to say that the Sport Academy programme will be up and running again from next week. The vast majority of programmes run before school and during Period 1 on Thursdays and include table tennis, trampolining, and rugby amongst other. Our Director of Sport, Mr Pilkington has been speaking to students and more information will follow next week.

I am also pleased to announce that our Performing Arts Academy will launch in 3 weeks’ time with a series of opportunities that will then feed into a full programme after half term. We are running the Academy alongside the North Tyneside Music Hub who also use our facilities on a Wednesday night for a range of activities including various choirs, a rock school and a ukulele club. The NT Music Hub also supported our Year 6 transition summer school in August and have produced a film of the even which you can view here – the children all really enjoyed themselves.

There has been much in the news this week regarding Covid vaccines for 12-17 year olds. We have received information from both the government and the North Tyneside Director of Public Health, which I have shared below. The school will not be responsible for collecting parental consent as the School Age Immunisation Service providers, who coordinate all other vaccinations that take place in school, are responsible for the delivery of the programme.

We have already carried out a number of tours for parents with children in Year 6 who are thinking of choosing John Spence. The tours have been a fantastic opportunity to showcase everything that we do as well as show off the new interior of the main building! If you do know of anyone who has a child in Year 6, please do encourage them to book a tour, details of which can be found on the school website.

I hope that you all have a good weekend, let’s hope the sunshine stays with us!

Best wishes
