The Wanderers Association

The Wanderers is an association of special schools which was set up to provide students in these schools with the opportunity to compete against each other in sport. John Spence are the only non special school to be part of that association, having been invited to join in 2004 as a result of all the work the school was doing to support students with special educational needs.

The aim of the association is to promote participation, enjoyment and respect to others regardless of ability.

There are currently 20 member schools throughout Northumberland.

Activities include 5-a-side Football, Athletics, Rounders, Swimming, Basketball, Table Tennis and Badminton. John Spence annually hosts the Football, Table Tennis and Badminton events.

Involvement in the association also allows students from John Spence to gain valuable leadership opportunities at these events.
