Work on the new build at John Spence is now well underway. The final design differs significantly from the original plans for the school, with the new building now being sited immediately to the south of the existing main school block.
The revised plan means that construction is being carried out with the minimum of disruption to the working life of the school. There is now no need for students to be placed in temporary accommodation, as had been originally planned, and the whole project will be completed much earlier than had initially been forecast.
Work began on site on 1st June 2015, with the handover of the completed building scheduled for 1st September 2016. The new school building will provide a fantastic working environment for our students and staff and will have state of the art specialist science and technology facilities in addition to new general purpose classrooms.
We are keeping our existing Sports Hall – the biggest and best in the region – and also our existing purpose-built Arts Block. Both areas will be refurbished as part of the building programme to bring these existing facilities up to the same standard as the new build.
As John Spence continues to go from strength to strength we see the investment of millions of pounds in new facilities as yet another step forward for the school.
