Home - School Contract
At the beginning of each academic year we ask our students and their parents to read and sign a Home-School Contract which states, in simple terms, what the student , the parent and the school should be expected to do in order to ensure that all of the young people who attend John Spence thrive and achieve success. The Home-School Contract is as follows:
Home-School Contract - A Partnership of Shared Values
At John Spence we believe that all children can succeed. Our values are expressed simply but are challenging and demand self-discipline and personal responsibility. They are:
- We respect each other
- We look after each other
- We get involved
- We create our own future
Our aim is to develop individual talent, social responsibility and active citizenship. As a Community School we believe strongly that a real partnership with parents, students and teachers is the only basis for future success.
The School’s Commitment
- To provide well-taught lessons in a climate of care and support
- To provide and atmosphere which is pleasant and productive
- To set and mark work regularly and provide incentives
- To contact parents promptly if there are concerns
- To offer counselling, guidance and advice where needed
- To provide at least one report and Parents’ Evening each year

The Student’s Commitment
- To attend school regularly, promptly and in full uniform
- To behave both in and out of class and to work as well as possible
- To take care of and respect the school buildings and those of the local community
- To refuse to take part in bullying or other antisocial behaviour
- To follow the requirements of the Code of Conduct

The Parents Commitment
- To support both their child and the school
- To ensure that their child attends regularly and is punctual
- To provide all necessary uniform and equipment
- To contact the school promptly if there are concerns
- To read and sign the planner weekly and monitor homework
- To attend Parents’ Evenings and support other school activities
- To be aware of and support the Code of Conduct
- To be aware that the Education Authority does not provide funds for or insurance against any loss, theft or damage of personal property
